You can get started with a single ZonePlayer and Controller. The Controller is a fantastically easy-to-use hand held unit, which acts as the remote control for the system.

Unlike a conventional remote control however, this unit does not need 'line of sight', it works using a similar technology to that used in wireless computer networks and works 'out of the box'. Control your ZonePlayers from anywhere in your house!

With the Sonos(TM) Controller, selecting your music is simple, you can see album and track description, album cover art, start/stop/pause, change volume etc, it is all very intuitive - use it for 2 minutes and you will never need to read the manual!

One Controller can choose the song on up to 32 ZonePlayers!

The ZonePlayer is a compact box, around 10 inches x 8 inches by 4 inches high. This acts as the amplifier for music in that particular zone, and has connections at the rear for a pair of speakers.

As you select music from the Controller, it instructs the ZonePlayer to play your selection - very simple and very elegant. The actual music is not stored in the ZonePlayer, instead it connects to wherever you keep your digital music. If you have a portable MP3 player, then you probably already have your collection on a PC or Apple Mac, in which case the ZonePlayer connects to that (lets refer to this first ZonePlayer as the 'connected ZonePlayer')

Of course, while the system can be used in a single room, the true power and flexibility becomes really impressive when you add additional ZonePlayers to bring your music in to extra rooms.

These additional ZonePlayers are completely wireless, transparently accessing your music from the 'connected ZonePlayer' , allowing different rooms to play the same or different music, either together or separately!

And wait, it gets even better - each Controller can manage not only the music in the room that it is in, but also the music from other zones as well. For example, if you are hosting a party, you can use your Controller to 'join' ZonePlayers together, so that the music is played simultaneously in each room, at a volume level that you can control per room. Apart from being amazingly convenient, this also means that you don't need to have the music at excessive levels in one part of the house to force it to travel throughout, instead you can set the volumes at comfortable level, house-wide, all from the palm of your hand.

Did we mention connecting other audio sources? Each Sonos(TM) ZonePlayer allows you to connect an audio source. This could be an mp3 player, a set top box, a PC, anything in fact that can output audio. These external audio sources are now also accessible from every room - amazing!
